Alchemist’s Log Cabin

Deeper in the wood. Further from everything.

A two-guest retreat with a dark romantic soul, tucked at the end of a private drive deep in the Vermont woods. Where Gardener’s Cabin catches the light at the forest edge, Alchemist’s is enclosed and particular — quieter, more interior, with an atmosphere that is entirely its own.

The living area centers on a tufted leather loveseat beneath a gothic candelabra chandelier, dark-stained log walls creating a warm contrast against the pine ceiling. Macramé curtains, ornate ironwork accents, a vintage trunk as coffee table. The bedroom is built around a tall carved four-poster in dark ebony, set against deep navy botanical wallpaper with warm amber lamps — and an ornate antique writing desk with a gilded mirror at the window.

The screened front porch runs the full width of the cabin, looking directly into the forest. Vintage wooden armchairs, an antique steamer trunk, string lights. The fire pit is steps away. The same ten acres belong to both Wychwood cabins, though each feels entirely its own.

Getting there

Duxbury, Vermont

Wychwood is in Duxbury, in the middle of Vermont’s best skiing — Mad River Glen is 20 minutes, Sugarbush 22, and Stowe 39.

The cabins are reached by a town-maintained dirt road followed by a short shared private road maintained collectively by neighbors — easy to navigate in summer and good conditions. In winter (December through March), expect snowpack and occasional icy patches; we strongly recommend AWD or 4WD with snow tires or quality all-season tires. During Vermont’s mud season (late March through early May), Duxbury’s dirt roads can become soft and rutted, and AWD is again helpful. Parking at each cabin accommodates two cars, though winter snowpack can make it tight for two. Full arrival details come in your pre-arrival message after booking.
